LAPS and Pet Partners
Wondering if LAPS is connected to Pet Partners®? more...
Pet Partners® is the new identity of Delta Society, an international organization that has been registering Therapy Teams, promoting research, and improving human health through positive interactions with therapy, service and companion animals since 1977.
LAPS is an independent organization founded in 2001 to train volunteers to perform animal-assisted therapy with their pets in Napa and surrounding communities. Our standards for training and evaluation are even higher than those for Pet Partners® teams.
LAPS conducts a six-week training class twice a year in order to train teams wishing to become LAPS teams. Our training class is unrelated to the Pet Partners® workshops.
However, we hold Pet Partners® Team Evaluations twice a year following each of our own training courses. LAPS teams must pass the Pet Partners® Team Evaluation PLUS additional LAPS exercises. LAPS teams may register either with LAPS or Pet Partners®.
We offer our training class and the Pet Partners® Team Evaluation to non-LAPS volunteers who wish to acquire the skills to perform animal-assisted therapy independently.
